The official Canadian government website has a clean and intuitive layout. However, I felt that a graphical format would better communicate global patterns. In addition, placing the current forecast in the context of the future could help plan the week ahead. A quick impression of how current conditions will change in coming days could facilitate planning for what to wear, how to commute, or when to schedule an event. Clink the link below for the official Montreal forecast.
This is a sample design using the temperature forecast for April 8, 2019, based on real historical data. One source of inspiration is the Google template for local forecasts. This is well done, but only shows a daily forecast. I also add the gauge chart for conveying information quickly. The 7-day Forecast here reflects a significant warming trend during this period. The projected daily highs and lows are plotted here (in Celsius) with a blue colour that gets lighter for increasingly distant days. This reflects greater uncertainty in the longer term forecast. My design prototype includes a document with seven days of historical Montreal weather from April 8 - 20, 2019. See the full document here: LINK TO DOCUMENT.
I used Google Charts to help write my own HTML code. My new dynamic webpage (below) reads data from the Environment Canada source, and is updated with a refresh. This site is still under development, and will resemble my prototype design (above) in the future.
